The internship is a training activity or research collaboration activity consistent with the program’s contents, with the aim to apply the knowledge learned and to favour future career choice.
It is usually related to the final exam preparation and can be carried out in two different ways:

external internship: it takes place at a company or at other universities or at other organizations affiliated to the University of Trento, placed in Italy or abroad, with the supervision of a university tutor and a company tutor
-
internal internship: takes place in one of the University of Trento structures, under the supervision of a university tutor.
For the internship, 6 credits (ECTS) are recognized, equal to 150 hours of activity.
The maximum duration of the internship is 5 months.
Before to begin the internship students have to have gained at least 48 credits.
The tutor can be a teacher or researcher of the Department CIBIO or the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI), Mathematics, Physics or from other departments of the University of Trento for specific projects.

External internship
To carry out the internship with a subject external to the University of Trento, you have to:

choose an internship tutor available to supervise your project. If you can’t, ask to the Delegate to help you in finding one
-
find the external subject in which to carry out the internship. you can
-
search in th the job guidance board
-
ask your teachers for suggestions
-
do it by yourself
-
-
finalize the internship project with your tutor
-
at least 15 days before the beginning of the internship, start the internship procedure provided by the Job Guidance Office
At the end of the internship you have to:
- write a final report
- deliver all the documentation to the Job Guidance Office, which will send you the documents you need to request credit recognition from Student Support.
Internal internship
Before the beginning of the internship at the University of Trento, you have to:

identify the Laboratory in which you will carry out the internship
-
finalize the internship project with your tutor at least one month before the internship begins
-
send the internship application undersigned also by you tutor and the risk identification form to the Department Staff and in carbon copy to the Delegate for Internship. In the application you have to detail:

the title and a short description of your project.
-
the Group or PI or Supervisor the internship will be carried out with
-
the start and end date of your internship period.

Once the application has been approved, the Delegate send the approvation to the CIBIO staff. If any problems with the contents of the project, the Delegate will notify it to the student, the tutor and the Department Staff.
You will receive all the information you need to start the internship one week before the start date.
At the end of the internship, you have to
-
fill in the internal internship certificate and have it signed by the tutor
-
send it to the Students Support Service for credit registration.
Early start and extension
You can ask an early start of the internship at the following conditions:
-
if you are in compliance with the exams required by your programme
-
your internship begin no earlier than September of the last year
-
the maximum duration of the internship does not vary.
You can ask to extend the duration of the internship, in agreement with your tutor, only once and up to a maximum of 4 weeks.
To request an early start or an extension, you have to fill in and send to your tutor the attached forms (in Italian only).
