The course belongs to two degree classes of the Italian university system:

  • Class L-33 Economic sciences
  • Class L-18 Economics And Business Management

Students are required to choose one of the two classes when they enrol. The choice can be amended until the third year of study.

The track Economics and Management aims to achieve innovative goals in terms of content, with a more in-depth study of computer science, and teaching methodologies.

A computer science course has been designed to provide first year students with the basic knowledge required for structured programming in some of the most widespread programming languages (R, Matlab, Python) with a particular emphasis on economic and management sciences. The acquisition of skills in structured programming is required to be able to use computer-intensive applications that are essential in the area of economics, management and finance. This will give students the opportunity to access the new sectors of economic sciences that were created by the development of big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

With a limited student intake the course managed to adopt various teaching methodologies, including:

  • information technology to teach both quantitative subjects and economics and management subjects
  • experiments and simulations
  • multimedia learning technologies for distance learning and video-lectures
  • flipped approaches with students doing the hard-learning part at home (techniques that improve interaction and student participation)
  • problem-based learning
  • discussion of case studies and problem-solving exercises in accounting, finance, management and law.
